What was the problem with my Newmar Northern Star?
I have spent the better part of a week off and on dealing with diagnostics to determine what happened to our kitchen slide on our 2005 Newmar Northern Star. After leaving Tucson and arriving in Lordsburg, NM (for a bomb cyclone layover) our kitchen slide would not deploy.
Are there any quality control issues with Newmar?
Absolutely not. This was my reply: Newmar customer service has been excellent and our dealer has also been helpful. However, there are definitely quality control issues. I think the RV industry as a whole faces some fundamental issues related to how they manufacture their product.

So, I tested as follows: Test – for the correct incoming voltage for the control board. I had 12.8 Volts DC present – No issue with the circuit that supplies power to the controller.
What does the threaded rod on a Newmar slideout do?
The threaded rod actuates the locking arm. Note* Since the threaded rod is in the “extended” (most threads showing) position this indicates that the locking paddle is in the fully retracted position.

When to extend slide out on Newmar Ventana Le?
During our walk-through of our new-to-use Newmar Ventana LE this past Thursday (3/21/19) at National Indoor RV Center in Lewisville, TX, the technician we had said the guidance from Newmar is to extend/retract slide-outs while the coach is at “ride height”.

Why are the fore and aft locks on my Newmar RV locked?
Watching the video showed me that when the locking arm is unlocked or retracted the threaded rod would be fully extended meaning that both fore and aft locks on my RV were in the unlocked position. Knowing this tells me that the portion of the controller that controls the fore and aft locks works fine.

Are there any problems with the Newmar RV?
The RV had a wall delamination that was fixed by Newmar prior to our purchase. This was never disclosed to us, and now we find out that 2 slide walls have been repaired (badly) and we have water entering the coach. Newmar isn’t returning our calls and doesn’t stand behind their product. We’ll probably have to hire a lawyer.
